Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there!

I’m sitting here with a delicious cup of brown sugar crumble donut coffee, watching the Macy’s parade, and reflecting on everything that makes me extremely grateful this year. I am thankful for everyone who stops by my little blog, for my family & friends, me and my family’s health and happiness, my fur baby Macy, for the ability to run, and for the community of runners that I can say I belong to. ❤️

After the parade wraps up, I’ll finish a little dinner prep and get ready to leave for my parents house to celebrate. Can’t wait to eat ALL THE FOOD! Here’s what’s on our menu:

  • An amazing charcuterie platter I’ll be putting together for appetizers + caramel apple sangria
  • Roasted turkey + stuffing (not actually maybe it’s dressing…the great debate)
  • MIL’s homemade mac n cheese + her vinegar green beans
  • My Dad always makes roasted acorn squash…maybe some year I’ll be into it
  • Caramelized onion mashed potatoes
  • I’m drawing a blank on other dinner offerings…so onto dessert!
  • My pumpkin cheesecake with a gingersnap crust
  • Mom’s apple pie
  • Mom’s cranberry pie
  • Mom’s chocolate pudding pie because my hubs doesn’t like fruit??
  • I think that’s it! I mean it’s enough for a group of 50!

Pre Run Checklist

While I’m busy prepping my pumpkin cheesecake and caramelized onion mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving, I’m also planning for a long run this weekend for a whopping 20 miles! This will be my longest run of marathon training and though it’s a week or so early before taper, I’m anxious to get it done. Since I’ll be enjoying all this weekend’s holiday celebrations, I’ve started making my checklist for my run early. I like to lay everything out the night before because who wants to search for their gels at 4 in the morning? I go through my pre run checklist, which always ensures I have everything I need for my long runs. Twenty miles is really far, so I try to be as comfortable as possible and that means I have everything I need!

  1. Energy gels are essential, for well, energy! Your long runs are the times to test out and try new flavors or nutrition and GU brand’s energy gels fit the bill for me. My favorite flavors are Salted Caramel, Salted Watermelon, and Pineapple. I crave salt when I am on long runs!
  2. There isn’t really a chance of me forgetting my sports bra, but there is a chance it won’t be clean or it’s hiding in a laundry basket or something. I make sure to lay it out the night before and I’m sure it’s clean and dry. I swear by Moving Comfort-their bras are supportive, comfortable, and cute, however I’ve developed a chafing problem and my bra seems to be the major culprit. I’ve been wearing the Juno for years… Anyone have any ideas or advice for me?!
  3. If I’m planning a solo run, I need to pack my headphones! I received a pair of Beats earphones for Christmas two years ago and they are a game changer! The music is clear and crisp, and the controls on the cord make switching songs a breeze. They are noise canceling though, so runners beware of cars, other runners, and be safe!
  4. Said chafing problem in #2, makes running really rough (literally), so I’ve needed to invest in BodyGlide. It’s really a problem..I’m know as the chafing girl. I keep it in my car and reapply during my runs when I swing back for some ‘race support’
  5. Water is of course essential and anything over 5 miles, I’m carrying it with me. My regular route has a longer stretch where water isn’t accessible, so I’m making sure to refill before heading that way. It’s also really important to train the way you’ll be running a race, and I will be carrying my Amphipod with me during the marathon.
  6. I was on the market for a new race belt and after hearing my friend’s raving reviews of the Hipster from Nathan Sports, I was sold. It’s really soft and comfortable and has a gazillion pockets. It feels like the top band of yoga pants and stays in place, so forgetting this would really dampen my running plans.
  7. OMG Feetures! socks have SAVED my tootsies on long runs. I’m a really big fan of the Features! elite socks that have built in compression, but find they are just not cushioned enough for higher milage. My new go to’s have been the High Performance Ultra Light socks-the high tabs on the heel prevent blisters, the cushioning keeps my feet happy, and the moisture wicking fabric keeps my feet completely dry even after 15 miles. I really need a couple more pairs, because I have the hardest time finding them when I lay out my outfit.
  8. Back to nutrition, it’s key to test out what you’ll be eating and drinking during a long run, so you know what works best for race day. During my 14 miler, I testing snacking on Swedish Fish and fell in love! They’re just sweet enough and easy to eat. Energy chews and blocks are a bit too thick and sugary for me, so these fishies are the perfect amount for me to stomach. If you’re not a fan of the fish, any gummy candy works!

Marathon Training Recap Week 18

Happy Tuesday!

Let’s all freak out together that I have a little over a month to go before I run my FIRST FULL MARATHON!

Where did the time go?? I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is two days away either!

Anyways, let’s dive into week 18 of marathon training!

I started off the week with a kick ass 8k race. The weather was perfect for running, however the course was not. The route for the race was the golf cart path at a resort. Have you ever golfed before? The golf cart path is twisty, hilly, windy, and a little slick due to all the sprinklers keeping the fairways nice and green. Despite that, I surprised myself by running a pretty speedy 8k. My goal was to finish in under an hour but came in at 1:01:01! Ah, so close! But super proud of that because it has been taking me WAY over an hour to run 5 miles, so I’ll take it!

Later in the week I hit the gym for a strength training session and 2 mile interval run on the treadmill and followed that up with a little lunch at a local Florida gem. How perfect is this little build your own salad and toffee pumpkin poke cake?! My salad had: deli ham and turkey, broccoli, croutons, mixed greens, chickpeas, olives, tomatoes, and a tomato bacon ranch. Holy yum!

Saturday, I ran another 15 miler!! What what! I felt pretty strong during it though it felt like I took an eternity to finish it. But hey, 15 miles is 15 miles! I didn’t have chicken tenders afterwards, but I made an amazing egg scramble with bacon and biscuits. Pretty much heaven.

Back to School Essentials

Most students go back to school at the end of a kick ass summer break. I’m going back to school the week of Thanksgiving. Just three days before Thanksgiving! Thank goodness I’m not hosting this year! ?

I may be doing it ass backwards, but the love for school supplies is strong with this one. The back to school shopping at the beginning of the school year is the best part about going back to school, amiright??

You could call me obsessed with school and office supplies. I had a little too much fun decorating our home office over the summer after we settled in after the move. I love all the super glam gold details and the kitschy, witty sayings on so many accessories. Kate Spade has really spoiled it for everyone…

With the holidays coming up (& me starting school next week!) I wanted to put together a quick list of grown up school and office supplies for all the #girlbosses in your life!

  1. I like to use stickies and page tabs to help organize notes and important items in my planner and these Kate Spade ones are presh. I love the mint and the green color combo and it makes keeping up with my schedule that much cuter.
  2. Obviously going to need all the coffee to get, so why not treat myself to a cute new Starbs tumbler? In gold please and thank you! I’d honestly take any in the link…they are all so adorable!
  3. I love writing with Sharpies. I don’t really know why it makes writing fun, but the metallic markers really make me happy. I’ll probably throw a few in my pencil bag just in case.
  4. The thirst struggle is REAL. I drink a lot of water and need a big bottle to keep me from running to fill it every 20 minutes. The 32oz bottles from Pink always have cute phrases on them and ensure I’m hydrated throughout the day.
  5. A friendly little reminder to ‘Get it together’, this notebook will keep my notes organized and my motivation levels high to study said notes.
  6. I’m still on the search for a cute, functional, and affordable tote bag to throw all my school gear in, but this sweet little pouch from Target will be a nice addition to my supplies. I like knowing where I can find pens and pencils and other misc. items that always get lost in my purse.
  7. I may not yet be the boss, but these inspirational pencils are too cute not to jot down notes with! Apparently there’s a bit of math and chemistry in my new major, so cute pencils will make it fun right??



I have more items on my to do list as the 23rd draws closer and I start this new chapter of my life! I’m hoping all these organizational items will help me keep it together!

Last January I toyed around with the idea of going back to school. Six months ago, I quit my job in event management to pursue that dream. But ended up on the couch everyday eating popcorn and binge watching Greys Anatomy. Oops.

But I learned something during the grueling hours of watching 11 seasons of Greys: Christina Yang is a badass. And I want to be a badass.

She is who she is without apology. She demands what she wants and won’t settle for anything less. Mostly, she’s strong and empowered and believes in herself.

I want to be strong and empowered. And I want to do great things.

Fast forward to now: I’ve got it more together now. I’ve been thinking a lot about life’s what ifs. I researched school and what it would take to go back. Turns out, about 3 years and a lot of $$. But it’s what I really want to do. I don’t want to look back in three years and think that I could’ve gone to school during that time. In three years I’ll be done and that time is going to pass anyways. I keeping thinking of the fitness quote ‘a year ago you’ll wish you have started today…’ Well I wish I had started in May, but I can’t change the past.

I try to live my life without regrets and while I could regret taking off six months to figure out what it is that I wanted to do, I won’t regret that time because it brought me back here.

Marathon Training Recap Week 17

Happy Monday ya’ll! How was your weekend?

Week 17 was a cutback week for marathon training, which was a nice welcome. Hi low mileage!

I kicked off the start to the week with a 3 mile treadmill run. We just joined a new gym and I’ve been loving my workouts lately. I did 3 miles of speed work and inclines and it kicked my booty! I followed up with about 20 minutes of back/tricep weights and a bathroom selfie.

I hit the treadmill another day for a 1 mile warmup run before doing some arm weights. I’ve really noticed the definition and small changes that I’ve started lifting again!

Some crisp fall weather came in on Friday, so of course I had to hit the streets for a nice 3 miler. I ran one of my quickest miles lately and was so pumped! The heat over the summer drastically slowed me down and the cool temps make me speedy!

Saturday morning Brian, his mom, and I donned some purple and headed to the ALZ walk nearby. We walked for Brian’s grandmother and everyone affected by the disease. It was another gorgeous day and they handed out pinwheel flowers to walk with that were so pretty.

I’ve had a super thrilling & busy morning of cleaning and catching up on laundry. I seriously do not know how two people generate as much dirty clothes as we do.

Anyways….on to Week 16 of marathon training!

I ran 15 miles.

That was my long run (and only run) of the week last week. And that’s okay…I had an active week at the gym, walking the pup, and bike riding, and I wanted to rest up for my longest run to date. I knocked my 14 miler out of the water!

I had to squeeze in my 15 miler on Thursday because I worked all day Friday and we went away for the weekend for our 1 year wedding anniversary!

I woke up early Thursday and started off for 5 miles before meeting up with some girlfriends for 10 more miles. I met my ladies at about 6:30am or so and finished those last 10 miles rather slowly. It got hot due to the time change and the sun shining earlier, but I got it DONE! And felt surprisingly good. We went to  Chick-fil-a afterwards and I was able to get some delish chicken and biscuits. It’s all I want after a long run.

On Friday I ended up working on my feet for about 12 hours and ended up with a serious kankle situation. I wore compression sleeves under my skinny jeans and I think they started cutting off my circulation by the end of the day. I took them off and the swelling went down immediately. I was also extremely dehydrated from the day before, so I was chugging lots of water.

Saturday we drove up to Ponte Vedra Beach for a little anniversary getaway. This is one of our favorite spots in Florida and is a quick drive away from Orlando. We enjoyed dinner at Capital Grille and lots of walks on the beach. It was an awesome first anniversary and one amazing first year of marriage!

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles

This time of year, I almost always have a candle burning and the smell of Bath and Body Work’s pumpkin pecan waffles is one of my favorite scents of the holiday season. I’m a big fan of seasonal candles and this one takes the waffles cake. It fills the house with a comforting fall aroma and makes me so happy. It’s the little things. ?

While the scent wafts through the air during autumn in my home I just crave sweet, comforting food, like waffles with coffee. Breakfast of champions.

I’m not usually a waffle or pancake girl…I’d choose an omelet and home fries over these sweet treats, but will go for one every once in awhile, especially when you throw in pumpkin, maple, and cinnamon. This doctored up recipe is based off a mix and are incredibly easy for a lazy Sunday breakfast at home. With a side of bacon and coffee, of course. Weekend essentials!

The waffles + the candle made my house smell amazing and exactly how a Sunday should smell. If Sundays had smells this would be it.

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles

Here’s the how to:

Waffle Mix (I used Kodiak Cakes Flapjack and Waffle Mix)

1/2 cup Milk (Called for in waffle mix)

1/4 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)

1 tsps ground cinnamon, plus more for dashing

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 tbsp pure maple syrup

1/2 cup whole pecans (I found cinnamon sugared pecans at Target)

How To:

Prepare the waffle mix according to package directions for quantity of waffles desired*. Stir in pumpkin puree and cinnamon. Pour batter on preheated waffle iron and cook until slightly browned and the edges crisp.

While the waffles are baking, prepare the maple sugar glaze:

Mix maple syrup into the powdered sugar. Stir to combine until smooth. Add a dash of cinnamon. Pour over those hot delicious waffles and toss some sugared pecans on top.

Bask in the smell of pumpkin pecan waffles and enjoy the taste of fall.

*Note: I only make one batch of the waffles according to the Kodiak Cake mix. If you plan to double or trip the recipe to make more waffles, add 1/4 cup of pumpkin puree per serving.

Marathon Training Recap Week 15


How do I only have two months left to prepare for my very first FULL marathon?! I don’t really know, but it’s coming my way, ready or not!

Week 15’s theme must have been hills, because I ran a lot of hills. Which is interesting, because Florida is flatsy patsy…anyways, the week started with my 9th half marathon, which was honestly a little rough going. I used this race as a long run, but I don’t know it doing this adds more pressure to me or what, but I think I psyched myself out. My last long run went so well and this time around, I was just not feeling it. I wasn’t happy about waking up early, I was nervous about getting there on time, finding parking, getting in porta potty lines, etc. When I did my 14 miler, I was able to do my own thing..get there on my time, I knew where the bathrooms are and when I could circle back to my car for fuel. I think races add unnecessary pressure sometimes. I got it done, but am thankful I don’t have another long distance race until the marathon.

I took it nice and easy on Monday, but Tuesday hit a hilly clay road! It was my first time running on clay, but the lower impact felt really nice on my still sore legs from Sunday’s race. There were a couple small rolling hills, which made it a really fun challenge. I started listening to audiobooks to switch up my running entertainment. Suggestions are always welcomed! ?

I went for a nice bike ride Wednesday after dinner and ran for the hills at my impromptu 5k on Thursday night. This 5k was really challenging but really fun! I pumped up my playlist and got in the zone for those hills! It slowed me down a bit, but I felt so accomplished. I haven’t really done too much hill training so this was a nice switch!

I ended the week with a 10k Halloween morning with some friends. This was my second 10k ever! I took it easy, as it was a cut back weekend in my plan and just enjoyed the costumes and company of other runners. Besides the roads not being clearly marked off for the runners, it was a good race and I could eat all the candy guilt free! ?

Our first Halloween in the new house was a success! We had an awesome time snacking on spooky treats, handing out candy, and dancing in the front yard. My family really got into it this year and we had a blast!
