Second Trimester

I am almost done with my second trimester! It’s going by so fast! I can’t believe that in three months we’ll have a baby. What?! It’s crazy to me.

The second trimester has been a lot of fun! It’s brought tons of energy and fun surprises like lots of kicking, so let’s recap months 4-6!

Twenty-three weeks and four days!

Weight Gain

Though hard to come to terms with, I have definitely been climbing up the scale. I feel like it’s only in my stomach though (at least that’s what I’m telling myself). So far have only gained a little over 10 pounds. My doctor doesn’t want to see anything over 25, so I think I’m well on track! The more gained, the harder it is to take off!

Symptoms

Thankfully the fatigue from the first trimester is over and the second trimester has brought tons of energy! I feel like I’ve got some early nesting going on and have been in housecleaning and cooking mode. Current projects are cleaning out the fridge/freezer/pantry to make room for stockpiling for when baby’s here and organizing the laundry room. Also putting together the baby room, which is a fun project!

Lower back pain. At the end of a long day on my feet, or especially after a morning workout, my lower back will be sore until I lay down.

No nausea or sickness thank goodness.

I started to feel flutters around 18 weeks, which have progressed to full on kicks! She’s so active all the time, the doctor even said we have a little marathon runner! ❤️ You can see when she kicks, my stomach twitches (like a muscle spasm) and you can feel it from the outside too!

Cravings

Chocolate chip muffins from Dunkin were solid through months 4 and 5, but the end of 5 and into month 6 brought a serious cinnamon craving! Specifically cinnamon raisin bread or bagels, cinnamon buns, apples and cinnamon, and cinnamon doughnuts.

Apples. Bought a six pound bag at Sam’s Club and lasted only a couple days. My parents are bringing back fresh picked Macintosh apples from New England after their month long trip and I cannot wait!

Flavored coffee. As my third trimester begins, so does pumpkin season! I cannot wait for fall foods and pumpkin flavored errythang. I recently ordered a box of flavored decaf kcups on Amazon and have been looking forward to one every morning. I have a couple pumpkin vanilla ones ready for my September 1st. And I’m sure a decaf PSL won’t be too far behind!

Aversions

Still no chicken, mushrooms, or BBQ. The smell of BBQ sauce makes me gag. ? I can occasionally stomach breaded chicken from like Chik-fil-A, but that’s rare.

Workouts

I haven’t really been able to run because of the heat, but when I do inside at the gym, it feels like I’m going to pee my pants. There’s too much pressure in my stomach/pelvis, so I’ve been keeping it really light.

Second Trimester | Fresh Fit Florida

I am missing running more than anything besides alcohol and goat cheese , and am already planning my comeback race…Im thinking Wine and Dine 2017! Im missing the runner’s high, the race atmosphere, running with friends, feeling totally exhausted after a long run, even waking up at 4am for marathon training. Especially as race season is upon us. But that’s just another thing I have to look forward to after her arrival!

I joined a new gym somewhere along the way, and have been loving the spin classes they offer. Have been using that as my cardio and I still get that exhausted great feeling after a run, so it’s been making me happy.

Also been doing lots of strength training. My goal is to have some serious guns by the time our girl is born!

Sleep

I love getting into bed it’s the best part of the day! My Snoogle has been helpful making sure I don’t sleep on my back, but I usually find I’ve rolled that way during the night. Thankfully been sleeping fully through the night and hope that continues as I enter the third trimester!

Related Pregnancy/Baby Purchases

We’ve started working on putting together the nursery. It’s been so much fun! It’s a work in progress and is coming along slowly, but it’s been really fun to work on little bits of it every day! I will be sharing the full room once we’re done!

Leggings! These are my fave from VS Pink. I don’t need to wear business casual attire at school anymore (yay scrubs!), so my focus is on comfy, stretchy clothing for after class and plans out and about.

I mentioned my Snoogle, which was purchased at the end of the 1st or beginning of the second trimester. I ended up getting it the pink color and it vaguely resembles a giant pink intestine or more appropriately fallopian tubes. I’d recommend a different color! ?

Back to School Fall Semester

Back to school shopping was always so fun as a kid and now that I’m back in school, I can’t deny that I’m just as excited again. Cute new school supplies and clothes make going to class at the end of summer that much more exciting. Though I don’t have a traditional summer break like most other schools (and kids!), I can’t help but want to buy all the supplies I’m seeing as we all get ready to go back to school.

I’m about to start my core classes at the end of the month, so I stocked up on some new school supplies for my new classes. And if you’re in Florida, whether you live here or are traveling this weekend, it’s our Tax Free Weekend! If your state doesn’t have a tax free weekend, or you’ve never heard of it, supplies, clothes, and some electronics are sales tax free for a weekend every August before going back to school. This deal isn’t usually offered online, so you may not find it in the links below, but stores in Florida will have advertisements for the sales. You can find more info here.

Here are some picks I’ve been eyeing (or have already purchased!) for back to school for the fall semester!

Back to School Fall | Fresh Fit Florida

  1. I’ve found that I need a pouch for all my pens, pencils, and all my supplies so they don’t get lost in a large bag. I love the dark leather details and monogram on this carryall from Mud Pie. So cute for fall…even though fall weather is still a ways away.
  2. I make sure to throw in some sticky notes and page flags in my pouch so I can mark important pages in either my planner, notebook, or textbook. This has been really helpful for rememering things at the top of my to do list or for reference in a long chapter. I love this set from Sugar Paper carried at Target!
  3. Packing snacks to keep my fueled through a long day at class is crucial. I get hangry, spaced out, and unfocused if I go too long without eating, so I’ve found that keeping some snacks or a drink in a little lunchbox has been a game changer. Sometimes I run errands or workout right after class, and knowing I have a Greek yogurt that’s still chilled or an icy coconut water waiting for me pre-workout has been really great. Erin Condren has some of the best planners out there, but also really fun lunch boxes, that I think are new for this year. I love the blush pink and flamingos on this one!
  4. This cognac leather backpack is from Vera Bradley-I used to carry a brightly printed backpack from them back at my first university, but love the look of this smooth leather one. My husband bought my a leather backpack for Christmas last year and I love the look of it. This Vera one is really similar…I absolutely love this color for fall! It’s so pretty!
  5. I’ve quickly used up all the small erasers on the end of my mechanical pencils in longer exams…so a large eraser to have on hand is essential! Also this one is adorable so how can you not?
  6. These notebooks are so fun! One is Lilly Pulitzer (left) and the other is a find from Target. Both are perfect for organizing notes and I think it makes it more fun.
  7. The pineapple trend is obviously here to stay…they’re still popping up everywhere. And how fun is this pencil holder?? So cute for a dorm, or my desk in Florida.
  8. I’ve been craving cold water lately during pregnancy…probably because it feels like 100* every day…so an insulated bottle has been essential lately. I love the S’ip by S’well offered at Target..they are a great price point than the original S’well, come in super cute colors and patterns, and keep cold drinks cold for a long time. I have a couple and like to fill them with ice and a drink and stash them in my little cooler for a water break.

Do you love back to school shopping as much as me? Do you like to take your kids back to school shopping, or is it a major hassle? If you’re in FL, share with my the tax free weekend items you’re scooping up!

My craving bar had snacks from month 1-5 and all the things I’ve craved since! We had Reeses Puffs from month 1, bread and butter (anytime), pickles and olives (always), mini chocolate chip muffins (month 4-now), grilled keilbasa (month 4-5), and doritos (month 2-3). It was a hit!
