I am almost done with my second trimester! It’s going by so fast! I can’t believe that in three months we’ll have a baby. What?! It’s crazy to me.
The second trimester has been a lot of fun! It’s brought tons of energy and fun surprises like lots of kicking, so let’s recap months 4-6!
Twenty-three weeks and four days!
Though hard to come to terms with, I have definitely been climbing up the scale. I feel like it’s only in my stomach though (at least that’s what I’m telling myself). So far have only gained a little over 10 pounds. My doctor doesn’t want to see anything over 25, so I think I’m well on track! The more gained, the harder it is to take off!
Thankfully the fatigue from the first trimester is over and the second trimester has brought tons of energy! I feel like I’ve got some early nesting going on and have been in housecleaning and cooking mode. Current projects are cleaning out the fridge/freezer/pantry to make room for stockpiling for when baby’s here and organizing the laundry room. Also putting together the baby room, which is a fun project!
Lower back pain. At the end of a long day on my feet, or especially after a morning workout, my lower back will be sore until I lay down.
No nausea or sickness thank goodness.
I started to feel flutters around 18 weeks, which have progressed to full on kicks! She’s so active all the time, the doctor even said we have a little marathon runner! ❤️ You can see when she kicks, my stomach twitches (like a muscle spasm) and you can feel it from the outside too!
Chocolate chip muffins from Dunkin were solid through months 4 and 5, but the end of 5 and into month 6 brought a serious cinnamon craving! Specifically cinnamon raisin bread or bagels, cinnamon buns, apples and cinnamon, and cinnamon doughnuts.
Apples. Bought a six pound bag at Sam’s Club and lasted only a couple days. My parents are bringing back fresh picked Macintosh apples from New England after their month long trip and I cannot wait!
Flavored coffee. As my third trimester begins, so does pumpkin season! I cannot wait for fall foods and pumpkin flavored errythang. I recently ordered a box of flavored decaf kcups on Amazon and have been looking forward to one every morning. I have a couple pumpkin vanilla ones ready for my September 1st. And I’m sure a decaf PSL won’t be too far behind!
Still no chicken, mushrooms, or BBQ. The smell of BBQ sauce makes me gag. ? I can occasionally stomach breaded chicken from like Chik-fil-A, but that’s rare.
I haven’t really been able to run because of the heat, but when I do inside at the gym, it feels like I’m going to pee my pants. There’s too much pressure in my stomach/pelvis, so I’ve been keeping it really light.
I am missing running more than anything
besides alcohol and goat cheese , and am already planning my comeback race…Im thinking Wine and Dine 2017! Im missing the runner’s high, the race atmosphere, running with friends, feeling totally exhausted after a long run, even waking up at 4am for marathon training. Especially as race season is upon us. But that’s just another thing I have to look forward to after her arrival!
I joined a new gym somewhere along the way, and have been loving the spin classes they offer. Have been using that as my cardio and I still get that exhausted great feeling after a run, so it’s been making me happy.
Also been doing lots of strength training. My goal is to have some serious guns by the time our girl is born!
I love getting into bed it’s the best part of the day! My Snoogle has been helpful making sure I don’t sleep on my back, but I usually find I’ve rolled that way during the night. Thankfully been sleeping fully through the night and hope that continues as I enter the third trimester!
Related Pregnancy/Baby Purchases
We’ve started working on putting together the nursery. It’s been so much fun! It’s a work in progress and is coming along slowly, but it’s been really fun to work on little bits of it every day! I will be sharing the full room once we’re done!
Leggings! These are my fave from VS Pink. I don’t need to wear business casual attire at school anymore (yay scrubs!), so my focus is on comfy, stretchy clothing for after class and plans out and about.
I mentioned my Snoogle, which was purchased at the end of the 1st or beginning of the second trimester. I ended up getting it the pink color and it vaguely resembles a giant pink intestine or more appropriately fallopian tubes. I’d recommend a different color! ?
Things We’re Looking Forward to Most
Finishing the nursery.
Our next ultrasound to clear up a few things that were noted in the last few.
The nesting phase!
Welcoming our baby girl!
